Live Streamed Unassisted Home Birth Update – Kara Baker
On March 23, 2019 I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl, Molly Fay Baker.
Molly was born in the comfort of my home, with only my husband and children present. I live-streamed the labor and delivery on my YouTube channel, Mom Life.
On Thursday, March 21, at 5:30pm I lost my mucus plug. The next evening, March 22, I had my bloody show at approximately 5pm. I knew I was going to be holding my precious little girl Saturday.
Around 5:30 pm, my labor began to progress. I was having some pretty good contractions, but they were still irregular. I spent the next hour on the toilet having numerous bowel movements. This is something I have never experienced during labor, so I was unsure of what stage of labor I was in. After going to the bathroom 6-8 times, I felt like I wanted to get cleaned up before I delivered my baby. So, I decided to take a bath.
Once in the bath, I had a few more contractions. My water broke around 6:45pm. I checked myself for dilation to see how much my labor had progressed. I felt Molly’s head about 2 inches in. Instead of fighting the urge to push, I decided to listen to my body.
Pushing felt good, so that’s what I did. After a few pushes, my baby girl’s head began to crown. Around 7:30pm, I gave birth to Molly.
After Molly’s birth, I kept her on me for skin-to-skin. I began to nurse her right away, and delivered the placenta into a stainless steel bowl about 45 minutes after the birth. While practicing delayed cord clamping, we all slept for 4 hours leaving Molly and the placenta attached. To concluded this magical event, my husband and I performed Molly’s cord burning ceremony.
The labor and birth of Molly Fay Baker was peaceful and amazing just like I had envisioned. She’s a perfectly healthy baby girl that loves to nurse, co-sleep on her mommy’s chest, and smile at her daddy.
I hope live streaming the event helps other women see that giving birth is something to look forward to instead of fear. It’s what we are made to do! Let’s stop doubting natural order, and put trust in our instincts and bodies.

Welcome to MOM LIFE! I’m Kara, a 28 year old, natural minded, mother of three that’s pregnant with my fourth child. I recently started a YouTube channel called Mom Life to document my pregnancy and help other moms.
This March, I’ll be LIVE STREAMING the independent/unassisted birth of Molly Fay in real time. I want to change people’s perspective of birth. Let’s lose the stigma associated with labor and delivery! I’m going to show everyone that birth is natural and it’s what we’re made to do. Our bodies aren’t flawed. The flaws lie within our way of thinking. Today, our thoughts and actions are being directed by corporate marketing. It’s time to trust our bodies and instincts instead of lining the pockets of big business.
I believe birth is not a medical event, should not be feared, and does not have to be painful. My first birth was at a hospital and a traumatic experience. My second birth was a water birth at a birth center, and I was terrified. My third birth was also a water birth at the same birth center, but this time it was pain free. I let go of all fear surrounding childbirth. I educated myself and became obsessed with watching natural births on YouTube.
Because seeing natural births helped me overcome my fears, I want my upcoming birth to do the same for other moms. Bringing our children into this world through natural childbirth is an amazing gift. Don’t rob yourself with unnecessary medical interventions.
Join me around March 14, 2019 for the LIVE STREAMING birth of Molly Fay. Don’t forget to subscribe to Mom Life on YouTube, so you don’t miss it!
